Hi, my name is Nicole and I live in the small city of Prince Frederick and I ahve always wanted a shitzu dog. I have a farm and I live with my family. I was raised with dogs but they always lived outside. We were never allowed to have shitzu dogs inside because that was just how my dad was raised. However I longed to have a pet inside since I was just a kid. I would put a shitzu puppy on my Christmas and birthday list for years before it would finally pay off.

About a year ago when I was only 17, my friend got a shitzu puppy. I just knew that this was my opportunity to ask again. Being that my dad liked the breed (Australian Cattle Dog) I thought I’d have a chance. So, I took it. I told him how much I wanted one not like he couldn’t have already known, and he said no. But I wasn’t giving up that easy. So then on one weekend my friend had to go out of town.

So she asked me if I’d watch her puppy. Of course I said yes rite away without even asking. My parents accepted and that was the beginning of a very exciting summer. When the puppy arrived at my house I was ecstatic. I took such good care of her, I took her out every morning, I fed her, I played with her, and I didn’t complain about the constant crying throughout the long nights. So when it was time for her to leave I got the breeders number from my friend. I came back inside like nothing had happened. I didn’t yet want my dad to know what I was up to. Again I asked my dad and again the answer was no. But I was still determined.

So, about a month later he called from work at about 8 AM and told my mom that we could try it. When she came in to my room and told me the news I cried. It was one Tuesday that I will never forget.I got up and hurried out to the store with my mom to get toys and food and all the exciting stuff you need for a puppy. I had finally gotten the answer I had waited 17 years to get. About a month after that wonderful day we were scheduled to drive down and pick up my new puppy. I couldn’t wait. My mother, my grandma, and I all drove to VA on a Monday morning to pick her up. I had a name picked out and I couldn’t wait to get her home. However when I got her home it wasn’t like I had planned. Everything was fine for the first 9 months or so but then everything was different.

My beloved cattle dog started with some bad habits. Constant barking, biting, and stubbornness. She wouldn’t listen to anyone or anything. Finally she had done the unthinkable. One morning I had let her out to go poddy. I heard her barking nonstop so I went out to see what the fuss was all about. I saw my dog chasing this woman up the street. The woman was frantic. I was calling my dog and trying to catch her but it did no good. So after I did finally catch her when my dad got home I knew she was in trouble. The woman had called animal control and my Nugget was busted.

After that day I knew my dad wasn’t going to let me keep her. He told me that I should find her a new home… not something I wanted to hear. But I tried to find her a home anyway. Luckily my aunt had come to visit and she fell in love with my dog. So the deal was she’d take her home with her. I agreed and away she went. About 2 weeks later I was at work. I work at a dog grooming place, and I was holding a shitzu dog.

I told my boss how cute I thought she was and then the idea came. She said “Why don’t you get a shitzu dog, they don’t shed, there small and they are so nice?” I thought about and then it hit me. It’s perfect. It happened to be that a lady that breeds the little cuties had a dog that was pregnant. I thought this was meant to be. So I waited and talked to the breeder, I told her that I wanted a female and if possible all black. Little did I know that was exactly what I would get. On October 17, 2005 the litter was born. The news was great. She had 3 females and 1 male.

And 2 of the 3 females were black. So at 4 days of age I went to put a deposit on a puppy. I saw them briefly, but as you all know you can’t pick out a puppy when it still looks like a hamster. So I told the breeder the name I had picked out and she said she’d start calling the puppy I picked by her given name so she’d be used to it by the time I got her. Eventually though even when the puppies were only about a week old I did pick because there were other people buying puppies too. I do not have my puppy yet witch I named Gracie. But I am due to get her rite around Christmas.

So this should be the best Christmas of my life all because of Amazing Grace. To any of you who are looking to own a shitzu dog or have thought about it they are the perfect little companions. There are so many good things about them that I can’t even begin to tell you. I know this whole story wasn’t about a shitzu dog but the most important part was.

To those of you who want a puppy and you’re not allowed or if you have wanted one for a long time just keep praying about it because it will happen. Just remember that good things come to those who wait for them. They sure did for me. I hope you enjoyed reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it.

We are new owners of a beautiful little girl shihtzu, named Lady Kaya of the
Lake. How we got here is quite a story...

We are new owners of a beautiful little girl shihtzu, named Lady Kaya of the
Lake. How we got here is quite a story. I have wanted to get a puppy for my 11
year old granddaughter, whom we are raising. My husband said no, because of all
the shedding. I went to a retreat at my husband’s supervisor’s home a year ago.
They have two shihtzu’s, Lord Buster of Boulder, and Wendzel’s Lady Gidget. I
fell in love with them instantly. So did my husband.

While at the retreat I shared my animal mid-wife experiences and the owners said
they were going to breed the two and asked if I would like to mid-wife in
exchange for a pup of my choice. I said sure, thinking they really did not mean
it. Well, in May I got a call and was informed that Gidget was carrying three
pups and to be ready to mid-wife around the first of May. I got on the internet
and refreshed my expertise through research of various shihtzu birthing
websites. I traveled to their home on May 3 to get the mother accustom to my
touch.

On May 5, 2005 (05/05/05 – championship numbers, right?) I took Gidget’s temp
and announced that the birthing will take place that day. Sure enough, at 3 pm
the first little boy was birthed with no problem, then the second, then third.
Gidget began to get active and we were ready to have a drink to celebrate. All
of a sudden Gidget jumped into my lap and started into labor.

She had two more boys and one little girl – 6 pups in all! I was happy that all
went well and mother and pups were okay. I found out later, when the owners
took mom and pups for their first checkup that normally shihtzu’s have three
pups, and any more than that requires a C-Section. Thank goodness I did not
know that before the birthing began or I would have been freaking royally!

We brought our little girl home on the 4th of July and love every minute with
her! She is the best thing we could have ever gotten for our granddaughter –
and ourselves! She is so smart! At age 3 months she learned to fetch, sit,
heel, lay down, and comes when you call. It only took us a month of house train
her (without a crate!). She is now beginning to growl when someone comes into
the yard, which we think is good, as it shows she is getting possessive and
feels at home in our house.

Here are pictures of our baby growing up (we have a whole album of her,
including live birth of her on video!). Lady Kaya is spoiled beyond
imagination. She goes each Saturday to the Feed Store with us to socialize, and
loves taking baths! She has more toys than Carter has pills! She is definitely
worth it! I also take her to see my Nana, who is 96 years old. Nana has lost
much or her memory, often calling us kids by another kid’s name, but she
recognizes and loves Kaya every time we visit. We have been told by Nana’s
caretakers that her memory seems improved after each visit we make.

This Halloween we are taking her Trick or Treating with my granddaughter – they
are going to be matching Lady Bugs. Lady Kaya is also scheduled to be in a
Halloween contest with my granddaughter this Oct. 27th, and we were asked if
Lady Kaya would be a fashion model for our local feed store’s Pet Fashion show
coming up in November. I would be happy to send pictures of her in her costume
and running the ramp at the fashion show when they occur. Thanks for the
opportunity to share my little love with others.

It all began with a picture my friend Toni showed me of her new black and white
shihtsu and I was hooked… I not only wanted one, I had to have one… So I
called the breeder my friend Toni got her shihtsu from and was put on a
waiting list. I waited and kept calling Ann (the breeder) for one year and a
half. I wanted a female, black and white. And then… In May of 2004 after one
of my phone calls to check up on any new litters I found out she had two
litters. And the best thing was that there was a black and white female. I
begged and pleaded, to please let me have her, but of course she had to call
other people who were also on a waiting list.

Finally after many questions, Ann agreed I could have her, the black and white
one. I agreed I would send a deposit of half the payment. But shortly after
that phone call I had a horrible accident which landed me in the hospital for 8
days. During my stay at the hospital, all I could think of was that I would
lose this beautiful shihtsu puppy to someone else because I had not sent the deposit.

I was discharged from the hospital on a friday afternoon, and saturday morning I
made my way to Western Union still sore from my hospital stay… She was
finally mine, I was told. I told Ann, please start calling her Sassy so she
knows her name by the time I get her… I could not wait until July 6th when I
had to pick her up…

I still had to find someone to make the long 3 hour drive to pick her up… My
cousin went with me on a tuesday 7/6/04. I waited in the waiting area and Ann
bought her out looking like a powder puff. We bonded instantly… And when I
put her down she knew she was mine… She kept following me around and kissing
me. I sat with her on my lap all the way home. She kept looking at me for the
entire ride. I was in love.

We were in love. That night she slept on a blanket on the floor, in my
boyfriend's house at the time and never cried once, and when I would check up on
her she would look at me with the most loving eyes.

It's been 7 months since I've had her, and I can't tell you how she's changed my
life. When I'm down and out she comforts me, when I'm happy she smiles and
plays with me, and when I just need someone she lays with me… She is the best
thing that has happened in my life… and my life would not be complete without
her.

Hi there. Here is my shih tzus Story. Our dog is a female puppy who is one year
old. We've never had shih tzus before. I actually saw one for the first time
while jogging around our local lake. It was so cute, I had to get one. Well,
Bubbles is a small dog with short little legs. She's also more stubborn than a
country mule. My wife and I live in a residential area where there is some
traffic. I fancy myself somewhat of a runner. My favorite race is the San
Francisco Bay to Breakers. Our garage has a puppy door to the back yard. When I
come home and open the garage door she is usually in the house, but sometimes
she's in the back yard.

She hears the car and comes sprinting through the puppy door.

On several occasions I get out of my car and say "Bubbles to me" which
means run as fast as you can in the other direction. Well, I can run fast, but
not nearly as fast as she can. When this happens, I get to run an obsticle
course through neighbors' yards, over fences, around trees. When I get close she
smiles and runs in circles until I'm within two feet, then she sprints off in a
new direction. The only way to catch her is to corner her in a yard. When I pick
her up, I can't even scold her because she just wiggles and licks my face. That
dog is one heck of a runner.

Our Shih Tzu is 15 years old. We bought her from a vet in Columbus, Ohio
where we saw a sign which said shih tzu puppy for sale and shih tzu puppies. Her
name is Tutti Zilla Hammer. Tutti means, all together. Zilla regards the actions
she made when she would pick up the small HO Race Cars off the track when she
was a puppy. We would put her up on the table so we wouldn't loose her in the
basement. Hammer being our last name.

Tuttti doesn't like being outside, even when were'e outside and the weather is
heavenly. So one day she had had enough of waiting for one of us to let her into
the house. She decided she would wabble (run) away from home. With tail tightly
curled and ears perked, down the driveway she went. Her actions said, "I know
exactly where I'm going."

We watched her as she toddled down the street. I ran after her begging her to
come home. Absolutly no response. I had to do what any decent care giver would
do, I picked her up and carried her home. To this day we smile almost laugh at
her determination. Mind you that she is 15 years old, 4 hips worn out, cateract
in on eye . . . and still insists on playing every morning before we go to
work, with the toy of her choice, of course.(smile)

One day at work a gentleman asked me if I would go on-line and see if I could
find him a small dog for sale in the area as he didn't have access to a
computer. Well, I started looking that night which was in August of 2004. I
gave him some info on Silky's and Yorkies and I started looking at shih tzu dog's.
I could not believe all the beautiful puppies that were for sale all over the
world.

Now I was not in the market for a dog, but looking at the pictures and reading
about the shih tzu dog and knowing how my sister-in-laws Shih tzu is, I just could
not resist. I knew I wanted one. Not just anyone, I wanted the one that was
meant to be with me. So, I started on my search. I knew I wanted a girl, I
knew I wanted small and I wanted black. I would go onto people's sites and tell
what I wanted and either they didn't have what I wanted or it just was not the
right little girl. Then someone told me I should visit a particular site. That
site was Debbie Jensen's site www.imperialshihtzu.com in Las Vegas, NV.

Well, I went to her site and she was having a litter come due in October - I
mailed her a deposit on first pick of that litter due in October, telling her I
wanted a small, black female. Well, needless to say my small, black female was
born on 16 October 2004 and I flew to Las Vegas in December and brought home my
Sofee Sunshine. I know in my heart she was born to be with me. She is just the
greatest dog I have ever owned or could ever hope to own. I brought her home at
8 weeks and just around 1 pound. Everyone on the flight home wanted to see her.
She will be a year old next month and she is just about 6lbs.

On top of getting the most wonderful dog in my life, I made a friend forever in
Debbie. She is a great person and a very thoughtful and caring breeder of the
small shih tzu dog. I would recommend anyone wanting a small dog contact her.

Hi Stephen. Here is my story. We had a Female Collie named Sandy for 12 years.
We had to put her down on 12-7-04. My wife and I said we were done with dogs for
a while. We were in the room when she died. So for 2 1/2 months we enjoyed the
freedom of a quiet house. One Sunday we were out shopping and my said " Lets go
the pet store and see what they had. We saw lots of puppies and 1 shih tzu. (
not one that stirred anything ) About 2 weeks later were in the area and my wife
says" Lets" go to the pet store and see what they got. I said just to look only
right and she said yes dear. When we got there we again saw many puppies. As we
walked down towards the end the young lady who we spoke to last about the shih tzu
said, " I have something you might like. "' She took us down to the end of the
cages and there sat 2 10 weeks shih tzu's one was laying down with no energy and
one was at the window just looking out.

My wife taped on the glass and the puppy started to lick the glass and get
excited. My wife ask id she could see the puppy and we went to a holding room.
He was so adorable. My wife started crying and I said what was wrong and she
said " he is the same color as Sandy our Collie. 1 hr later we had Spencer and
on our way home. We have loved him ever since. He has warmed our Hearts again
and we thank God for giving us this Precious creature. The Spencer Man. He is
now 6 months old and going strong

One day while my 80 year-old mother was taking her early morning walk, this
little black and white fluff ball started following her. She was dragging her
back legs. Mother brought her into the house. She had on a collar, but no
identity tags. She was clean and beautifully groomed. She didn't have any dirt
on her, so she couldn't have been outside for long. I supposed she had escaped
from someone's house in my neighborhood. I went door-to-door trying to find her
owner, with no luck. I posted photos and posters all over the neighborhood, but
no one claimed her.

Cookie cannot urinate by herself. She must have her bladder expressed manually
several times per day. She cannot hold her bowels at all, so she can make quite
a mess. After a day went by and she didn't pee, I took her to the vet because I
was worried about her. The vet told me she was only 7 months old. She tried to
discourage me from keeping Cookie because it would be a life-time commitment to
care for her. My family decided we would keep her, anyway. When I told the vet
we were going to keep her, she said "Oh, I'm so relieved you're going to keep
her. I had to discourage you so you wouldn't feel guilty if you decided to put
her to sleep."

The vet trained me to express Cookie's bladder and take care of
her other needs. She is healthy, happy and ornery — full of life. We
purchased a wheelchair for her so she can take walks and play outside without
scraping up her legs. The first photo of Cookie with her face on the floor,
shows how unhappy she was initially with her cart. She just didn't know what to
make of it. After she figured out how much more mobile she would be and how
fast she could run with it, she took right to it. Inside the house, she just
drags around her back legs, but boy can she move. She hops like a rabbit.

We have had Cookie for about 4 years now. We couldn't be happier that we took
her in. I recently told my mother that if she hadn't found that little dog, it
sure would be dull around here!

Eagerly, I waited at the airport for my two new shih tsu pups to arrive in
their little crate. At seven weeks, they were flying from Missouri to New
York. It was February and a bitterly cold night. Finally, the attendant
handed me the crate with my new shih tsu, I opened it and out staggered
two tiny creatures–one black and white with a little bit of brindle;
one white and reddish brown with a black tips on the ears. They were
shaking probably with fear, hunger, and cold. Patiently, my friend and
I waited for them to pee in the parking lot. That was the beginning of the
story.

I christened the light one, Della: and the dark one, Daisy Mae. Right
away, I recognized Della for her beauty and calm intelligence; it took me
awhile to appreciate the wild energy and intense curiosity of Daisy Mae.
Day after day, I struggled to housebreak the two shih tsus who ran in two
different directions before I had their cage door fully open. At times, it
was heavenly. I would sit in my rocker with the two pups asleep in my lap,
or I would spend hours combing their hair (the ultimate therapy). Other
times it was chaotic. They kept each other up at night and they wrestled,
barked, growled and played with each other endlessly. It was cute, funny,
and out of control.

Della learned things quickly and was easy to get along with. Daisy took her
own sweet time and stole my heart with her silly, playful, audacious ways.
As I observed them, I noticed that Daisy, smaller than Della, drank twice
as much water and urinated more frequently. I tucked that information
away.

Step-by-step, I began to bond with my shih tsus and they with me. We got
housebroken together in a way. I can't tell you how much energy and time
this took. I cried in frustration frequently, but I laughed in delight
more than I cried. Then, came the day of their first vet examination. We
sat for hours, listened to videos about dog training, and finally the vet
came in. He said Della was perfectly healthy but Daisy Mae had a kidney
problem. He was going to put her on antibiotics and check her again in
three weeks. "Hopefully," he said, "It's an infection." He didn't sound
hopeful.

Three weeks later, I received the news: My silly Daisy Mae, the one who
sucks every drop out of life, had kidney failure. The vet said she might
live three years and she might live three months. I sobbed in utter shock
and disbelief. We talked for about an hour. I learned that I had to get
Daisy onto soft dog food and mix that half with water, that Vanilla Wafers
would be her treats. I learned that she might never be housebroken and
that she had to have water with her at all times. I went home with two
pups, new food for Daisy, and a broken heart.

Over the next week, I came to realize that I couldn't have Daisy on one
regimen and Della on another one. Della wanted Daisy's food and Daisy
wanted Della's. Daisy's in-house urination lapses were tolerated; Della
began lapsing as well. I could see confusion in intelligent Della's big
brown eyes. I came to a difficult decision. I would have to give Della
away and nurse Daisy Mae.

I put an ad in the employment bulletin where I work and had several takers.
I gave Della to a good friend of mine because it felt like she'd still be
in the family. When they came to pick her up, I put her bed in the same
crate that she had arrived in from Missouri. I hugged and kissed her,
crying, and then put her in the crate. She sat quietly, serious. I petted
her and told her she was going to a great home where there were children
for her to play with. I put her favorite treats in with her and closed the
door. They drove away. I knew that Della would be ok wherever she went.
She had a self-possession that was palpable.

I went back into Daisy Mae who was waiting in her crate. She had never been
separated from Della. For a couple of days, she searched everywhere for
her sister. I spent a lot of time with her, playing and grooming her. I
thought I would never see her smile again, never see that pink tongue
hanging out of her little black face. Then, one day, we were funning
through deep grass in the field near my house, and Daisy Mae was smiling.
I dropped to my knees in the grass and Daisy ran to me, tongue lolling out,
hair flying. She rolled on the ground and I rubbed her tummy. She wiggled
and smiled in joy. Daisy Mae was herself again.

Now, it's one day at a time. Last night, Daisy peed in the house 3 times
and peed outside 4 times. She seemed to have to urinate constantly. Most
days and nights she's as housebroken as any other dog. She's taken to her
new food and has gained weight. I don't kid myself. Daisy Mae has always
known her lifetime would be short; she makes the most of every minute.
Whatever happens and whenever it happens, I'll never forget the little
dark-eyed, spunky pup who makes this lucky owner feel ten years younger.
And who makes me laugh as if my tongue were hanging out.

When he wakes up in the morning he rushes up to the top of the bed to give kisses so we wake up and let him outside and to get his breakfast ready. It is such a thrill to own
this little boy.

I have been a large dog owner for over 30 years and this is my first small dog, I had no idea they were so wound up and always excited to hear a knocking sound at the door. When this happens he grabs his toy and greets the person and then runs to jump on me to be loved or calmed down. He has trained me to perfection!
